Cybersecurity is one of those things everyone in a workplace should know about, no matter their role. But here’s the problem—turns out, a lot of people don’t.
A recent survey in the UK found that about one in three adults flunked a cybersecurity test. And get this—the test was designed for 11-year-olds. Yikes.
So, what does this say about modern security? And just how prepared (or unprepared) are businesses today?
What Ramsac Found Out
To get these results, Ramsac had people answer five basic cybersecurity questions before they could access an IT website. These weren’t just random people, they were decision-makers in their organizations.
Once the numbers were in, it turned out that 32 percent of respondents missed at least one question, again, questions an 11-year-old should be able to answer.
Breaking Down the Results
The survey highlighted some troubling trends:
The toughest topic? Malware, with nearly 15 percent answering wrong.
Phishing wasn’t far behind, with 13 percent getting it wrong.
General cybersecurity awareness tripped up 6.85 percent of people.
Worst of all, 21 percent didn’t know how to protect against phishing, which is bad news, considering how common phishing scams are.
How to Strengthen Your Business Against Cyber Threats
Good news: improving cybersecurity doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some easy ways to keep your business safe:
Keep Your Systems Updated
Hackers love outdated software. Make sure your hardware and software are regularly updated to stay ahead of known vulnerabilities.
Train Your Team
Cybersecurity isn’t just a one-time thing, it requires ongoing learning. Regular training and testing help your team recognize threats before they become big problems.
Encourage Open Communication
If something looks suspicious, your team should feel comfortable speaking up. A quick question could stop a security threat in its tracks.
